1. Shop around

Many people see a good deal and take it without thinking about the other options. Just because you saw one good deal doesn't mean that there aren't better offers available to you. Keep searching to ensure you get the best deal possible. Search with multiple different sources to see if one website or travel agent has a better deal available.

2. Know your budget

We all have a budget to work with. It's important to analyze your budget to see what you can afford and have a number in mind. You need to have a goal and then a second number you absolutely cannot go over. Do not use credit for your cruise unless you get points for it, and you have the money in your account. Don't forget to include money in your budget for a ride to the airport or ship, snacks, souvenirs, and other miscellaneous things you might need to spend money on. Don't forget an extra couple of bucks in the case of an emergency.

3. Go with inside cabins

Inside cabins are the discount cabins. They don't offer the best view. They also don't have the best amenities. They are generally smaller and less luxurious. They are also generally on the bottom floor of the ship. However, they are the cheapest option available.

While on your cruise, you will be extraordinarily busy. You will generally spend the day on the gorgeous beaches or seeing the sites. You will then have dinner and drinks with family and friends. There may even be entertainment. When you finally do get to your cabin, you will only be there to sleep. You don't need the nicest room.

4. Go all inclusive

All-inclusive cruise options cover all (or most) of the food and drinks on your cruise. While it may seem more expensive up front, all-inclusive options are worth it as long as you utilize it to the fullest. Be sure not to get food and drinks outside of the boat. You will save a lot of money by eating and drinking everything offered to you for free on the boat.

If you want to eat at the Australian restaurants and enjoy the local bars, this might not be the best option for you.

5. Look for last minute discounts

Cruises make more money when they fill all of the rooms on a boat. However, some boats don't fill up like the organizers anticipated. If they have rooms left over, they will offer last minute cruises for people at a substantial discount. You can get cruises for a small portion of the cost. This is great for people with flexible schedules, such as retirees. Look for these discounts before paying for a regular cruise. They will most likely be during the off season if you're okay with that.

6. Go in the off season

Australia is beautiful at any time of year. You don't necessarily need to go during the peak season. You will save a lot of money if you go even a month or two outside of the time most people go. Look up the weather for that particular season and pack and plan accordingly.

You don't need to spend a lot of money to have a great vacation. Use these tips to go on an Australian vacation on a budget.
