Mulled Wine
What you'll need (to make 8 servings)
- 1 orange, sliced and seeded
- 1⁄2 cup sugar
- 2 cups water
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 bottle red wine
The how-to
- Combine the orange, sugar, water, and spices in a large pot and put it on your stove. Do not use a plastic pot.
- Slowly bring to a boil and then reduce the heat. Afterwards, simmer for 15 minutes.
- Reduce the heat, add wine and reheat slowly. Do not bring to a boil.
- Serve warm in mugs, glasses, decorate them with anise, slices of lemon...get creative!
Eggnog
What you'll need (to make 20 cups)
- 12 large egg whites
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 12 egg yolks
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 7 cups whole milk
- 2 cups light rum
- 1 cup whiskey (rye or scotch)
- 1 dash nutmeg
The how-to
- Take a large bowl and put in egg whites. Beat until they start to thicken.
- Add 1 cup sugar and beat it until the mixture thickens.
- Take another large bowl and beat egg yolks and salt until it thickens.
- Combine the beaten egg whites with yolks. Again, stir it until the mixture becomes thick.
- Take one more large container and beat cream in it, until it starts to thicken.
- Add 2 tbsp sugar & vanilla to the beaten cream.
- Add milk, rum & whiskey beating continually (for non alcoholic eggnog omit the alcohol and add artificial rum flavoring doing it a tsp at a time until you achieve the desired taste).
- Combine all the ingredients, and chill.
- Serve with a garnish of a sprinkle of nutmeg on top of each glass.
Candy Cane Hot Cocoa
What you'll need (to make 4 servings)
- 2/3 cup water
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 standard size candy canes crushed into a fine powder
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups milk
- 3/4 cup half-and-half cream
The how-to
- In a saucepan, bring water to boil.
- Reduce heat to medium and stir in cocoa powder, candy cane powder, sugar, and salt until smooth.
- Reduce heat to medium heat and add milk and half-and-half.
- Allow the hot chocolate to come to a simmer but not boiling.
- Pour hot cocoa into four mugs.
Tips: garnish with mini marshallows and candy canes. If you want to sprinkle on candy canes, place the candy inside a ziploc bag and crush them. It's a mess-free method to decorate your drink!
